The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) in UAE has issued a warning against the usage of unlicensed blood glucose meter, which is being sold illegally in UAE.
According to a report in Emarat Al Youm, the warning that has been issued by the ministry in the form of a circular, is for Accu-Chek Performa Blood Glucose Meter and Accu-Chek Active Strips, batches of which are being sold in the markets without being imported by the local authorized sponsor. This process is not guaranteeing the safety in the distribution and storage of the product before it is being used by the consumers, which might alter the test results on being used by them.
The affected batches of batches are Accu-Chek performa Strips available in batches of 50’s (477870) and Accu-Chek Active also available in batches of 50’s (24697034).
The circular called on all patients to buy the meter from authorized sellers, and asked all the pharmacies to stop selling the mentioned batches.
The ministry also cautioned residents and consumers against consumption of sexual supplements that are known to affect the heart and arteries of the consumers and weight loss supplements that are sold without their ingredients being mentioned on the packaging.
The sexual supplement for men, sold by the name of Black Storm is known to contain Sildenafil, which could affect the blood pressure and make it reach low and dangerous levels. It also affects patients with heart problems, diabetes and patients who have high cholesterol levels. The product is not legally listed and must be withdrawn from the market.
Patients and consumers have also been asked to refrain from consuming medicines contaminated by fungus. This includes all batches of Paracetamol 500 which is produced by M&A Pharmachem Ltd, were withdrawn due to a fungal contamination.
