Taliban Leadership Agrees on Ceasefire After Peace Deal with US

Sources close to the Taliban say the visiting delegation to Pakistan has returned to Qatar and that the militant group’s leadership agreed.

Sources close to the Taliban say the visiting delegation to Pakistan has returned to Qatar and that the militant group’s leadership agreed on country-wide but short-term ceasefire right after the signature of the agreement with US negotiators.

“Taliban leadership, following series of consultations, admitted country-wide ceasefire right after signature of the agreement with US,” a source close to Taliban said.

The Taliban delegation to Pakistan was led by Shahabuddin Delwar and was recently deployed to Pakistan.

The US officials and the Taliban have not commented on the report.

A spokesman for Presidential palace, Dawa Khan Mina Pal, hoped that after the signature of the agreement between the US and Taliban, intra-Afghan negotiations will start where the ceasefire would be the main part.

Meanwhile, some sources say the Taliban and US still holding talks in Qatar to prepare for the signature of the agreement.
